Colby Day has come on board to adapt “Children of Time” for Lionsgate, sources tell Variety.
Based on the epic sci-fi novel by Adrian Tchaikovsky, the story involves a planet inhabited by evolved spiders uplifted by human scientists, and their later discovery by the last humans alive in the universe. The work plays off the contrast between the societal development of the spiders and the barbaric descent of the starship crew of the last humans.
Peter Kang and Meredith Wieck are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.
Day most recently worked on “In the Blink of an Eye” a grounded sci-fi drama. It was ranked fifth on the 2016 Blacklist, and is being produced by Grey Matter Productions. That story tells the tale the history of the universe and human life as told through three intertwined stories.
He had also worked on a handful of shorts including “Appetite,” “Storefront,” and “Happy Vacation.”
Day is represented by WME, LBI, and Morris Yorn.
