As if we weren’t already fans of Ruby Rose, we love her more than ever now that we know she’ll be starring as Batwoman on the new CW series about the superhero! We honestly can’t imagine anyone else playing the role as flawlessly as the Australian beauty; she legit is the perfect person to play the LGBTQ+superhero and we’re sure the show will be a hit.
In the past few years, the 32-year-old has quickly risen to stardom. Although she originally got her start in modeling, her career has transformed into a much bigger path. She is also an actor and singer. Who could forget her character in Pitch Perfect 3? What about her iconic role on Orange is the New Black? Truly iconic.
So although we have to wait a little bit before we can see RR starring as Batwoman, we’re using the time to brush up on our knowledge about the starlet. Want to know more about this queen? Here are 10 facts:
She was born in Australia.
Ruby was born on March 20, 1986, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is currently 32 years old. She is the daughter of a woman named Katia Langenheim, who raised the model as a single mother. Ruby also received guidance from her godfather, boxer Lionel Rose, who has influenced her a lot throughout her career and life.
She began modeling in 2002.
Before she entered the world of acting and singing, Ruby got her start as a model. At the age of 16, she began modeling and joined the Girlfriend magazine model competition in 2002, which ultimately launched her career. From there, the rest is history.
Her first campaign was with Milk and Honey.
After her big modeling debut in the Girlfriend magazine competition, Ruby booked her first huge gig! She collaborated with Australian fashion brand Milk and Honey for a beautiful campaign. We stan a young fashion icon!
She has a pet pig.
Some people like dogs. Others like cats. Others have bird or reptiles or fish or other easy-to-maintain pets. And while Ruby is definitely a dog-lover, she also is obsessed with another pet of hers: a pig.
She bought the pig for her mother originally and it lives at her home in Australia. But when she purchased sweet Hazel, she thought she was going to be a small pig. But, as she explained in the interview above, things took quite the turn.
“It grew double the size every week until it’s now the size of a wild boar,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “This pig wants to eat anything under the age of 15.”
She’s a vegan.
In 2013, Ruby began switching to a vegan diet. In an interview with Shark After Dark, she explained her decision, saying, “I used to get something called ‘shark fin soup,’ and I didn’t know. I said to my mom, ‘Wait, is this made out of an actual shark’s fin?’ and she was like, ‘Oh no, darling, of course not.'”
But she later found that it that it was, indeed, make of real shark fin. She continued, “I thought that it was even worse that they just cut the fins off and the sharks were out there not able to move. That really scared me and I used to have nightmares that they were finless in the ocean and I couldn’t eat any fish ever again.”

She’s gender fluid.
At the age of 12, Ruby came out as a lesbian. Then, as she grew older and learned more about her identity, she came out as gender fluid. In an interview with Today, she said, “The message that I sort of wanted to explain to my fans was why I dress the way I dress, or why I am the way I am. Because I still was getting those questions of, you know, ‘Why does she look like a boy? She could be so pretty if only she had longer hair and wore more make up and wore a dress.”
She continued, “It’s a bit more complicated than that. I knew the world was starting to talk about transgender and gender as a whole, so the fact that it’s even gotten 25 million views, that’s wild.”
She struggles with depression.
Many have fallen in love with Ruby because of how open she is with her personal life and struggles. She is very outspoken about her battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, as well as what it’s like to live with bipolar disorder. Her openness on these topics has allowed fans to really draw close to her and find comfort in her story and journey.
Her first television appearance was on MTV Australia.
Ruby first appeared on TV on MTV Australia. She was one of the MTV VJs and, TBH, that totally makes sense. The network is totally her aesthetic and she absolutely killed it as a host.
She was engaged to Phoebe Dahl, but they broke it off.
After dating for quite some time, Ruby announced in 2014 that she was engaged to designer Phoebe Dahl. But unfortunately, a year into the engagement, they two decided to break it off. The model then went on to date singer Jess Origliasso from The Veronica for about two years until they broke it off in April of 2018.
She’s rumored to have dated Demi Lovato.
Although Demi Lovato told Complex that she did not have an intimate relationship with Ruby, fans think otherwise. We caught the two stars flirting back and forth on social media, so could the rumors be true!?
When D.Lo was hospitalized for an alleged overdose, the model took to Twitter to show her love for the singer.
