Ratings reveal how Princess Eugenie’s wedding fared against Harry and Meghan’s

ITV’s ratings soared by three million yesterday when the royal wedding aired on This Morning.

Despite being billed as a more lowly affair than the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan in May, almost four million people tuned it, trebling the channel’s late-morning slot figures.

At its peak, 3.9 million watched Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank tie the knot in an extended This Morning special hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, according to overnight figures.

It was the channel’s biggest audience since the wedding of Prince William and Kate in April 2011, with the broadcast receiving 46 per cent of the share compared to the usual 19 per cent and 856,000 viewers.

And the highlights broadcast at 8pm proved to be equally as popular, drawing in 3.4million viewers.

ITV said the three-hour broadcast helped win the slot for the first time since November last year.

However, it failed to reach the dizzying heights of Harry and Meghan’s wedding, which was also held at Windsor’s St George’s Chaple and was watched by a total of 11.5 million.

This was comprised of 8.9 million on BBC One and 2.6 million on ITV overall.

BBC One declined to air the wedding of Eugenie and Jack on Friday, although part of it was covered on BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire.
