Orange Is the New Black WILL end with season 7 on Netflix

Orange Is the New Black has had its prison sentence commuted by Netflix — and, in this case, that’s a bad thing for fans of the show.

The cast of the groundbreaking and Primetime Emmy Award-winning comedy-drama announced on Twitter on Wednesday (October 17) that the upcoming seventh season will be the last.

“I’m going to miss playing and living on the edge of one of the most groundbreaking and original and controversial series of this decade,” Kate Mulgrew (aka Red) admits in the video.

There’s also a brief hint at what’s to come from Uzo Aduba (aka Suzanne), who promises: “Season seven, you will not be disappointed. It is a season you will not forget.

“And we’re going to give you everything and more that you could have ever wanted.”

The Emmy winner adds: “I’m so grateful for the fun times, the knowledge, the friendships, the love, the family that we have created together.”

The most recent sixth season ended with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger involving Taylor Schilling’s Piper Kerman that Alex Vause actress Laura Prepon said in August could foreshadow the show’s end.

“The endgame is there,” she told THR. “As of now, season seven is our last season. So, the endgame is clear.”

Along with that hint of an “endgame”, executive producer Tara Herrmann has also recently confirmed that a major character will definitely be returning after an ambiguous fate in the sixth season. (No, it’s not Gemma Collins.)

Orange is the New Black‘s seventh and final season will be premiering worldwide on Netflix in 2019.
