Neighbours airs Alan Dale’s return as Jim Robinson, 25 years after his on-screen death

Neighbours has aired a ghostly return for Jim Robinson in the show’s Christmas Day episode.

Alan Dale has briefly reprised his role as Paul’s dead father, 25 years after the character suffered a fatal heart attack.

Following weeks of speculation over how Jim would come back, the Aussie soap’s festive episode saw him appear as a vision while Paul (Stefan Dennis) was going through a moment of crisis.

New character Delaney Renshaw has told Paul that he’s responsible for the death of Mannix Foster after leaving him injured in the middle of nowhere last year.

Today’s edition of the show saw Paul carry out a grisly mission to verify Delaney’s claims by trying to find Mannix’s body out in the countryside.

During the trip, Paul lost control of the car and accidentally drove off the road, slamming his head in the process.

After regaining consciousness, Paul saw the image of Jim in a Christmas ornament he had hanging in the car.

Although moved by the sudden appearance of his late father, Paul was soon forced to go on the defensive as Jim gave him a stern talking-to over his many mistakes.

Confronting Paul over his failed marriages, fractured relationships with his family and history of crime, Jim ultimately provided hope for the future by telling him: “It’s never too late to be the man you want to be, son.”

A short time afterwards, Paul started digging in the suspected spot of Mannix’s remains and was horrified to come across a body. Is this proof that he now has a second death on his conscience?

Alan Dale filmed his Neighbours return in September and teased fans on social media by announcing the news.

Meanwhile, speaking this month, he added: “Being Jim Robinson again is a strange feeling after 25 years particularly because I died! It was actually quite eerie being back on the set and I really loved it.”

Neighbours repeats its Christmas Day episode today at 6.05pm on Channel 5.
