Love Island's Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland are the first couple from the show to marry

Love Island‘s Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland have become the first couple from the ITV2 show to tie the knot – so congrats!

The pair confirmed the happy news that they got married over the weekend on social media through their respective accounts.

“Would like to say a huge Thankyou to all of you for the amazing well wishes as newlyweds!” Olivia tweeted.

“We are bursting with happiness and are currently enjoying our time away from everything. We promise to share with you all soon as we can see how many of you are excited to see.”

Alex wrote a simple: “Mr and Mrs Bowen then.”

The pair were the runners up on the 2016 series, coming second to Cara de la Hoyde and Nathan Massey.

After tying the knot at a stately home in Essex, the pair are next set to jet off to Sri Lanka and the Maldives for their honeymoon.

Their journey to the altar has not been the smoothest ride, however, with Olivia revealing last month that Cara would no longer be a bridesmaid despite being booked from the beginning.

“Cara’s got Freddie now and when I asked her [to be my bridesmaid] she was a lot less busy and I thought she could handle the pressure,” Olivia said. “But we spoke about it and she’s so busy with Freddie and she’s got so much on her plate that I felt like it was pressuring her.

“I said, ‘I don’t need you to be my bridesmaid, you’re coming to the wedding regardless and if it’s easier on us both with all the commitment, how do you feel about coming to the wedding as a guest?’

“And she was really happy about it and said it was nice to hear that I thought about it like that.”

Olivia and Alex are set to document their wedding day and its build-up in a new reality TV series.
