Love Island producer denies allegations of "fakery"

As beloved as it is, Love Island can never escape a pesky fix claim or two – and this year’s series certainly had more than its fair share.

Throughout this summer’s run, producers consistently denied allegations from some viewers of fixes, faked scenes and set-ups, and now one of its bosses has elaborated further.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Paul Mortimer denied allegations of “fakery” outright but did admit that the producers are intimately involved in villa life. Meal times included.

Comparing the show to Big Brother, where contestants’ only interaction is with producers in the Diary Room, Paul said Love Island was more “flexible” because there are “producers in the field who happen to sometimes be in the villa”.

He continued (via The Sun): “It’s no secret that someone comes in and caters for them and they have a nice dinner every evening.”

After insisting the producers’ involvement with islanders is “not fakery”, the show boss added: “Of course it’s got the hand of a producer on it. We’re making a TV show.”

Something that producers definitely don’t have a say in is the islanders’ lives post-villa, which in the case of Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham is getting more serious by the day.

Just yesterday (August 22), the nation’s sweethearts announced that they had bought their first home together on Instagram. “What a lovely morning we’ve had!” Jack told fans. Bless.
