Jonathan Cheban brands Jason Gardiner a 'jerk' for Gemma Collins Dancing On Ice comments – but admits his pal probably won't win

The American reality star jumped to defend the Towie star after she was given a score of 2.5 for her performance by Jason, 47, because he thinks she 'stole the show' and didn't deserve the spiteful comments or low mark.

Speaking to The Mirror Online, Kim Kardashian's BFF said: "I thought Gemma was amazing. I think she stole the show, obviously, any friend of mine would steal the show. That's how it is.

"I think [Jason]'s a jerk. I think he was a jerk to all of them but I guess that's his job, I think it's what he gets off on to talk to people like that."

Jonathan – who sparked up a friendship with Gemma on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016 – thinks the judging panel on the programme do not have to be so 'vicious', as he thinks it effects the contestants.

He continued: "I just think it's their first day, they've been working their a***s off, you don't have to be that vicious on their first day, at least give them some kind of motivation to go practice.

Jonathan – who is known for his Instagram account Foodgod – has insisted he wouldn't compete on the skating competition if he was criticised.

He continued: "If someone's telling you how horrible you are on the first day, like I wouldn't want to do any more, so I think it's a terrible approach giving people 2.5. What a jerk."

Although Jonathan has claimed he would quit the competition if comments turned nasty, he wishes he was a critic on the panel because he thinks he would do a better job than Jason.

The confident star said: "I wish I was a judge on that show, I'd be a way better judge than them. If that guy [Jason]'s going to be a jerk he has to at least be witty and he's just mean and not witty and that doesn't work. You've got to motivate people too, that's what makes a great judge."

Jason continued to support The GC as he described her as the highlight of the show, and without her viewers would not be interested, although he doesn't think she receives credit for her 'entertainment value'.

He gushed: "To me, Gemma is pure entertainment, she's the show, without her I don't even know if there's a show because I'm not interested.

"She's who everyone was waiting to see, they saved her to last, and they gave her no credit for the entertainment value and the judges should consider everything, the outfits, the entertainment, they're not professional ice skaters. Don't say, 'Oh you made a turn over here and you were stiff', of course she's stiff.'"

Although Jonathan backs James Argent's girlfriend all the way and has praised Gemma for her skill on the ice, her flexibility, and entertainment factor, he doesn't think she will win the competition because of the 'brutal' criticism.

Asked if the Dancing On Ice favourite will take home the trophy this series, he said: "I don't know [if she can win], I mean it's very tough and everyone is so brutal and critical on her instead of taking her for the entertainment value.

"They take it literally and that p****s me off because she works so hard and the fact that she even knows how to ice skate is one thing, the fact that she can do the splits and put on a show where everyone was excited to see her, I think they were way too critical."
