Jodie Whittaker hints she wants to stay on Doctor Who for "a long time"

Jodie Whittaker made a stellar debut as The Doctor last weekend, drawing in massive ratings for Doctor Who in the process.

So, it’s safe to say she should be sticking around for a long time on the show, the actress herself suggesting as such in a new interview.

“I suppose it seems like such a long time off, that sense of not doing it,” she told Bustle of staying around.

“But the thing that was so brilliant about getting the part, and something I know because I know [David Tennant], is that once you’re in the family, you’re never out…

“I can be 80 years old and referred to as ‘the Doctor’ by somebody, and to know that you’re always welcome in that world is extraordinary.”

In the wake of her successful debut, Jodie has also expressed her wish to share scenes with some classic Who characters, including two big fan favourites.

“I’d love to work with Billie Piper,” she said. “Rose was a brilliant character.

“I love what she brought to that role – it was engaging and strong and vulnerable and dynamic. I’d like to meet Rose. And River Song [played by Alex Kingston]!”

Jodie added: “There’s loads of brilliant creatures and monsters. Can you imagine me meeting my first Dalek?”

Doctor Who returns with episode 2 – ‘The Ghost Monument’ – this Sunday, October 14 on BBC One.
