Jane McDonald reveals her mum Jean has died and says 'the light in her heart has gone out'

The singer posted a heart-felt message on Twitter earlier today announcing the sad news.

Jane, 55, told her 137k followers that a 'light in her heart had gone out for a short while.'

The deeply-felt Tweet read: "I know this time of year is difficult for so many people due to losing loved ones, this year I join you. I have very recently lost my beautiful Mum. A light in my heart has gone out for a short while. My family and I would appreciate your privacy regarding this huge loss."

The Tweet has attracted hundreds of messages, passing on condolences to the former Cruise ship singer.

Loose Women panellist, Andrea McLean, was one of the first to share her sympathies.

Andrea commented: "I’m so sorry to hear this Jane. Sending you all my love xx.'

Another well-wisher, responded:  "Thinking of you and your family at this very sad time. I know from how you talked about her that she was a very special person. Take care xx,"

Whilst another simply said:"So so sad, no other words."

Jane Anne McDonald grew up in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and has a brother, Tony, and sister, Janet.

Her mum, Jean, ran a boarding-house and her dad, Pete, used to be a miner who also doubled as a chimney sweep.
