Hollyoaks stars speak out over Stephanie Davis' shock return as Sinead

Hollyoaks stars have praised Stephanie Davis and defended the decision to bring her back to the Channel 4 soap.

Davis will reprise her role as Sinead O’Connor as part of the big autumn stunt week in October, more than three years after her contract was terminated with immediate effect.

Despite some fans of the show being less than certain about the news, Stephanie Waring – who plays Cindy Cunningham – said that she “couldn’t be happier” Davis is back.

“Do you know what, she has really grown up a lot and she has really taken control of everything in her life and everything that has happened with people,” Waring told the Daily Star.

“She is a really, truly wonderful human being, and I couldn’t be happier to have her back on the show.”

Malique Thompson-Dwyer (Prince McQueen) added: “She’s doing really good… When everything happened, I didn’t know her back then, but from what I know of meeting her on set, she is a really nice person.”

Show boss Bryan Kirkwood recently backed having Davis back, telling Digital Spy: “I am Stephanie’s biggest fan. I think she has shown remarkable courage and strength over the last year.

“She has been through a really tough time in the public eye, but she’s now come out the other side.

“Stephanie turned her life around, is making better choices and is returning to what she does brilliantly – and that’s being a fantastic actress.”

Hollyoaks airs on E4 and Channel 4.
