Hit 105 overtakes Nova in breakfast radio ratings battle

Hit 105's breakfast team have overtaken Nova 106.9 in the fifth radio survey of 2018, gaining 13.7 per cent of the market share.

Nova 106.9's Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill held the top spot for the past two surveys before sliding in the latest numbers, released on Tuesday.

Stav, Abby and Matt on Hit 105 gained 0.6 per cent of the market share, while Nova's team lost 0.9 per cent slot into third place behind Triple M's Marto, Robin and The Moonman.

Triple M jumped a surprising 1.6 per cent in the breakfast ratings, from 11.1 to 12.7 per cent, and also saw a strong growth in listeners aged 40-54, adding 4.3 per cent to take 18.3 per cent of the market share.

Hit 105 also gained 2.1 per cent of listeners aged 25-39, rising to 17.8 per cent from 15.7 per cent.

Nova's program director Jay Walkerden said the survey had been the closest-run of the year, with the battle expected to heat up for "finals season".

ABC Brisbane breakfast with Craig Zonca and Rebecca Levingston also managed to increase their market share for the second ratings period in a row from 9.1 per cent to 9.5 per cent.

The national broadcaster gained a larger share of listeners aged 55-64, but lost a small percentage of the 25-39 age bracket.
