Guillermo del Toro's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film casts Walking Dead star

The cast for Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark remake has been announced, and there’s a suitably spooky Walking Dead star in there for good measure.

The adaptation, which will be directed by Norwegian director André Øvredal and not del Toro, is expected to kick off production in the next week before premiering at Cannes next year.

Hotel Transylvania and The LEGO Movie‘s Daniel and Kevin Hageman have written the big-screen version of Alvin Schwartz’ children’s stories, but who’s doing the scaring?

According to a report in Variety, the cast includes The Hunger Games: Mockingjay‘s Michael Garza, Wes Anderson regular Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn and The Walking Dead‘s Austin Abrams.

Austin, who you won’t remember from The Inbetweeners US, starred in AMC’s hit post-apocalyptic drama for nine episodes as Ron Anderson. We wonder which project will freak him out more?

Staying true to the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trilogy, the upcoming adaptation will follow a group of teenagers who try to unravel the mysteries behind a series of deaths in their town.

Guillermo del Toro is set to go back to his horror roots even further with a brand new Netflix series, which will include episodes directed by himself and other filmmakers.

The horror anthology, which will be called Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, was announced earlier this year.
