'Grey's Anatomy' Enlists Josh Radnor As Meredith's Possible McBoyfriend

Things are heating up at Grey Sloan Memorial, and we can’t get enough.

According to People, Josh Radnor (aka the blue, French horn obsessed Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother) will play Meredith’s new love interest on Grey’s Anatomy. Radnor will kick off his stint on Oct. 11 as Meredith’s mysterious blind date. Very few details about his character have been released, so it’s unclear whether this is a terrible one-time date, a steamy fling, or something more longterm.

Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff explained that Season 15 will build on Meredith’s relatable dating experiences and all the highs and lows that come with it. “Derek will always be with her — in her heart and in the faces and hearts of their kids — but he’s gone and she’s still here and at the end of the season premiere she’s admitting that she wants more,” Vernoff explained in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “She’s agreeing with Cece, the matchmaker, that there is no cap on happiness. That she can be happy with her career and her kids but having someone to share it all with might be really nice. And that means putting herself out there in a whole new way. Actually seeking love. That’s brand new.”

Even Ellen Pompeo is wildly aware of how difficult it is to find the right guy to permanently join the show as Meredith’s new man. “Patrick Dempsey is a very tough act to follow, and it’s challenging to get someone to come on a season 15 show,” Pompeo revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “We’re gonna find someone who makes an impact. That’s our biggest challenge this year.”

Derek Shepherd died in Season 11, and we have seen Meredith struggle to find stability with a partner since then. Although Dr. Riggs seemed to have potential, that romance fizzled out rather quickly. Sparks also flew between Meredith and transplant surgeon Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), but he vanished as quickly as he appeared at Grey Sloan Memorial.

Even though Meredith is currently kind of, sort of flirting it up with DeLuca, we are really hoping that quickly run its course. Meredith doesn’t need to be dating a man-child whose romantic history is the equivalent of hot cheese rotting in a dumpster. Girl, you can do better. We believe in you. Clearly, McDreamy left behind some tough shoes to fill, so we’ll have to wait and see if Radnor is up to the task.

This Thursday’s episode will be a two-hour crossover event for Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 and will air at 9/7c on ABC.
