Great British Bake Off viewers outraged as first ever vegan week is revealed

In a teaser for the show, Noel Fielding can be heard saying: "Next time, we're throwing out the eggs and butter in our first ever vegan week."

The bakers were then seen in a fluster, with one dropping a tart on the floor before they are all challenged to make vegan meringues.

Then they have a towering cake showstopper and the final clip shows one design slowly slipping off it's stand onto the used pans next to it in a complete baking disaster.

But despite the impending drama, many viewers were furious at the theme and took to Twitter to complain.

One wrote: "Vegan week? FFS" while another added: "VEGAN WEEK?! Oh please god no. All of a sudden I feel like murdering a carrot."

A third raged: "Having a vegan week on #GBBO is truly an insult to all that is good about baking. Butter, milk, cream and eggs is what baking is about!"

Others shared gifs to illustrate their displeasure, with one using the iconic shot from the 2014 series of Iain Watters throwing away his cake away.

They wrote: "VEGAN week?!?!?! No no no no no no. #GBBO."

Another shared one of Steve Carell's face screwed up and simply wrote: "Vegan Bake Off?"

While a third posted a gif of Viola Davis looking unimpressed and wrote: "Vegan week next week, really?"

However not everyone was upset about the move, with one happy viewer tweeting: "YESSS VEGAN WEEK!! So excited for next week's episode."

Another shared: "I'm so chuffed there's a vegan week on #gbbo."

A third added: "People are so mad vegan week, and for what? it doesn't affect you or your life in any way. It's just promoting that good food can be made without using dairy. it doesn't mean you have to go vegan."
