Doctor Who’s new TARDIS revealed as Jodie Whittaker takes her crew for a spin

After months of waiting to see Jodie Whittaker wielding a sonic screwdriver, fans got their next wish as the new TARDIS was revealed in the second episode of series 11.

While there is always potential for these things to disappoint, it certainly did NOT as fans shared their excitement on social media.

Appearing as the episode finished, the entirely remodelled design was revealed after it was dsetroyed in the 2017 Christmas special, though little about the exterior police box has changed between owners.

As The Doctor headed inside to see how it looks, she said: "Ohh – you’ve redecorated! I really like it!"

It is pretty different from previous incarnations, with some fans suggesting it looked like a "honecomb" with its hexagonal panels and towering golden icicles.

The central time rotor is surrounded by the crystals, with golden lights illuminating the generally dark interior and all the various buttons and levers which will take the team through dimensions.

The console, which is where all the steering and controls are, has some fun gadgets as well to help the group along, including a custard cream biscuit deliverer, a tiny spinning Tardis and an hourglass.

Graham, played by Bradley Walsh, asked: "But it was a police box? How do you fit all this stuff inside a police box?"

The Doctor told him it was "dimensional engineering," as the group marvelled and looked shocked at the incredible sights before them.

She told them she would take them home, but a preview for the next episode revealed they would be heading to see Rosa Parks in the 20th century in America, so it will clearly be a long journey before they are returned home.

The episode also saw the first LGBT character of the series introduced, as one of the rivals in the galactic space race revealed she had a wife who sadly suffered in some way.

Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Sunday at 6.55pm.
