Doctor Who's John Simm reveals if he would ever play The Master opposite Jodie Whittaker

John Simm played recurring Doctor Who baddie The Master for Russell T Davies in 2007 and 2009, and made a surprise return last year to help wrap up Steven Moffat’s final series.

Now there’s a new showrunner, new composer and a new Doctor in town, the show feels like its slate has been wiped clean for new fans to get on board.

With all that, plus The Master’s ability to regenerate, you might assume it’s time for a new Master fight this new Doctor.

But Simm is more than ready to return for more if he gets the call, telling Metro that he’d really enjoy having another go at the deranged Time Lord.

When asked if he was aware of any plans for his return, he said: “I’ve no idea but if they asked me I’d absolutely consider it because (Jodie Whittaker is) fantastic.

“It’s always a pleasure and a joy to go back and do that show and be that guy.”

We have a feeling that The Master, be it John Simm’s incarnation or a brand new one, won’t appear for a while, with new showrunner Chris Chibnall promising a focus on all-new monsters for this series so new fans won’t feel left behind.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One with ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth’ on Sunday, October 7.
