Disney's Nutcracker and the Four Realms video unleashes Helen Mirren's evil Mother Ginger and clockwork clowns

Dame Helen Mirren gathers her sinister forces in Disney’s latest sneak preview of its Christmas movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

The latest Hollywood attempt to film Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet dives right into the colourful world of the four realms that young Clara (The Twilight Saga’s Mackenzie Foy) explores in the fantasy film.

Have a look at the final trailer below:

Clara is warned from the start by the wise old Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman) that nothing she encounters in the other realms would be as it seemed, and she’s soon welcomed into the land of snowflakes, flowers and sweets by the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley).

But dark forces are threatening all realms as the evil Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren) amasses an army of clockwork clowns and a giant harlequin (Jack Whitehall) to take control of time itself.

“Mother Ginger started this war,” the Sugar Plum Fairy tells Clara. “I hope you’ll be the one to finish it!”

This visual feast for the eyes was brought to life by Chocolat director Lasse Hallström, with a round of reshoots being undertaken late last year by Jumanji‘s Joe Johnston.

The cast also includes Richard E Grant as the Snow Realm King, Miranda Hart as the Dew Drop Fairy, a potential break-out performance from dancer Lil Buck as the Mouse King, and supporting appearances for Matthew Macfadyen, Ellie Bamber and American ballerina Misty Copeland.

Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is set to arrive in both US and UK cinemas on Friday, November 2.
