Dani Dyer joins dad Danny in first look at BBC’s Right Royal Family

Danny Dyer left the nation in hysterics when he discovered he was descended from royalty during an episode of BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? in 2016.

Now, the channel is bringing the 41-year-old EastEnders star back to screens to learn more about his blue blooded heritage in a hilarious new programme, entitled Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family.

In a newly released trailer clip from the programme, Danny can be seen trying on medieval clothing, riding a horse and eating traditional royal food.

Plus, his daughter Dani Dyer – who won Love Island alongside boyfriend Jack Fincham – even joins him on his educational quest.

In the hilarious promotional footage, fans see a lavish gold crown being placed on the Mick Carter actor’s head, before he’s later seen smashing a watermelon with a spear.

His famous daughter Dani also gets into the spirit of things as she emerges in an ornate medieval gown complete with a headpiece, in hysterics at her father’s antics.

Spoilers from the show also reveal more of what can be expected from the hilarious looking programme, including the news that Danny’s family history gets even more exciting as he digs a little deeper.

While fans already know that the Albert Square hardman is related to King Edward III and William the Conqueror, the actor is also set to discover that he is descended from a saint.

Speaking on the show, Danny says: "I’m a direct descendant from a saint. Saint Louis IX, who was the King of France in, I think it was the 12th century, I can’t remember now.

"Yeah, he was a saint. I think there’s only 2000 saints ever, and he was allowed to have children — he had 11 children, and yeah, I’ve got his blood knocking about, so make of that what you will."

It turns out that Danny’s 26th great-grandfather is the French King Louis IX. Louis IX was a devout religious leader who died in 1270.

He was later canonised as Saint Louis, thus giving Danny a link to saintdom.

Of course, Danny took this in his stride, proudly boasting: “It’s just so much to take in. I’m related to a saint.” He also said it was hard to believe sacred blood was “coursing through my veins”.

* Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family begins on January 23 on BBC1
