Dancing On Ice professional Alexandra Murphy says Brian McFadden HAS got what it takes to rival James Jordan.
The ice skater has been partnered up with the former Westlife star this series, and he’s developed quite the rivalry with the ex Strictly Come Dancing pro.
After James earned an impressively-high score last Sunday, Brian said he’d do whatever it takes to beat him, and Alexandra reckons he could actually do it.
During an exclusive chat with Mirror Online ahead of their first performance this weekend, she told us: "Brian is wonderful, he’s trying so hard.
"He wants to beat James of course but you know what’s funny, they’re actually best friends and they’re on the phone to each other all day.
"Whenever I see Brian, James is on FaceTime, he loves him so much, it’s a bit of a bromance and they’re the first ones to show each other the next moves they learn.
"They have this competitiveness and great banter but they just love each other so it’s really funny and I adore James, he’s so kind and a great guy. He was fantastic, he worked so hard."
She added: "You should have seen Brian the first time he came out on the ice, but now I’m so shocked, it’s like he’s not the same person.
"He was very wobbly and he’s so tall so it’s like a tree coming down. We’ve had a couple falls and he’s fallen on top of me a couple of times and it’s a long way down when you’re that tall."
Despite a wobbly beginning, Alexandra says Brian is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the ice.
She told us: "I think Brian’s the type of person when he puts his mind to something and he really wants something, he can do it.
"He’s worked so hard and we haven’t really had as much time as everyone else because Brian’s still been on tour, so we were in South Africa and Dubai and I went with him and we trained at the rinks out there and I’ve been travelling around the UK with him from one gig to the next.
"We’ve been having a couple of hours of skating in the morning then he’s had to perform at night so he’s been exhausted but he’s still given 110% to me, it’s been a dream, I’ve been so fortunate to have him. He’s a laugh but he does work very hard."
Alexandra said that when the line-up of celebrities was released, all she hoped was that she’d be paired with someone "over 6ft" and "entertaining", and says she got that and more in Brian.
And she laughed when we pointed out that she was paired with the not-so-tall Kem Cetinay last year.
She said: "This was a big shock for me. I’ve had to adjust my own skating because Kem was so small and Brian is so big.
"Kem was fun size and Brian is king size. But both of them are lovely and they’ve been wonderful to me and treated me so well, I have no complaints, I hit the partner jackpot.
"Kem was another one that people didn’t expect. I think Brian’s going to surprise a lot of people. People think of him as a jokester but I think people are going to be surprised when they see him skate on Sunday and how much hard work he’s put in.
"I can’t wait to see how he progresses if we get through on Sunday."
She added: "To see Kem’s journey, how he started at week one and all the way through the show, with how quickly Brian has progressed, I can’t imagine what he’ll be like if he makes it to the final. I can’t imagine how good he’ll be after the amount of improvement he’s made in the short time he’s had."
