Coronation Street's Sally Ann Matthews reveals the shock moment she found out her character Jenny Bradley would be the next Rovers Return landlady

The 47-year-old actress opened up about the moment ex-Corrie boss Kate Oates told her she'd be the next woman in charge of the iconic boozer on today's Good Morning Britain.

Entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold asked her during an interview on the set of the soap: "Did you ever imagine you would be pulling pints?"

Sally – who first appeared on the soap in 1986 – replied: "Of course she's been a barmaid but I never expected her to be a landlady. That was a big shock.

"When Kate Oates, our former boss, told me I literally went ooohhhh… OK!

"I'm not terrified!"

It comes after it was revealed that Corrie fans will see Jenny decide to turn the Rovers Return into a trendy gastropub.

Their new business also doesn’t get off to the best of starts as new employee Henry Newton, played by George Banks in the ITV soap, takes a tumble down the cellar steps and breaks his arm.

Johnny and Jenny are horrified when Henry reveals he plans to sue them for compensation for his accident.

It’s a sharp pin in their bubble of happiness after spending the week planning the pub’s new look and gazing with pride at their names over the door.

They spread the word that they’re planning on turning the boozer into a gastropub, which leaves Bistro owners Michelle Connor and Robert Preston worried about their business.

The couple try to have a sneak peek at the works being carried out at the Rovers but Johnny and Jenny keep their cards close to their chests and tell them they’ll have to wait for the grand re-opening like everyone else.

The couple then tell a delighted Henry and Gemma Winter that they want to employ them at the pub.

But as the newly reunited pair celebrate in the street, they don’t spot a couple of sinister looking men watching Henry closely.

Later the heavies accost Henry and tell him that unless he pays back the £20k to his ex-fiancee Cressida’s family for their cancelled wedding he’s for it.

As the Rovers unveils its new look, the regulars are left stunned at the relaunch night.

Liz McDonald watches on sadly as Johnny and Jenny excitedly pose for pics for the local press.
