Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd and Shayne Ward go head to head at the Inside Soap Awards after emotional suicide and rape storylines

The soap stars impressed viewers this year with their emotional performances on the Cobbles and have now both been shortlisted for Best Actor at the event next week.

Jack, 30, already moved fans with his character David Platt's harrowing rape storyline earlier this year and picked up Best Soap Actor at the British Soap Awards.

Meanwhile, Shayne, 30, who left the soap in May, was lauded over Aidan Connor's emotional suicide storyline.

The actors will face tough competition in the category next week against EastEnders' Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) and Hollyoaks' Gregory Finnegan (James Nightingale), according to Digital Spy.

The pair already went head-to-head against one another last month at the TV Choice Awards but ultimately lost out to BBC star Danny, 41.

It was also revealed that Danny Miller (Aaron) and Ryan Hawley (Robert) have made it onto the shortlist for the Best Partnership at the 2018 awards.

The Emmerdale duo are set to face off against EastEnders Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright (Linda Carter).

Also in the category are Corrie's Jack P Shepherd and Julia Goulding (David Platt and Shona Ramsey), along with Hollyoaks' Jacob Roberts and Adam Woodward (Damon Kinsella and Brody Hudson).

The Inside Soap Awards take place in London next Monday (October 22).

While voting for most of the categories has closed, fans can still have their say on who wins Best Soap, which remains open until 12pm on the day of the ceremony.

Soap fans are in for a treat tomorrow when the awards will reveal the shortlist for all categories.

Last year, Emmerdale picked up a whopping eight awards, including the coveted Best Soap, while Corrie nabbed five honours.
