Coronation Street residents finally discover Sean is homeless

Sean Tully is known for his fun, smiley demeanour and light-hearted storylines on the cobbles, but recently he has had some very serious struggles to contend with.

He was forced to live in a broken tent in a park after he was asked to move out of Fiz Brown’s house, found himself out of a job and with nowhere to stay for weeks.

Sean has been beaten and abused by passers-by, and befriended another homeless person, Carol, who is sadly struggling with her own issues of prostitution.

But it looks as though Sean’s luck is about to change as, finally, the residents of Weatherfield learn of his distress and go to help him out.

First off, a recently returned Eileen shares her concerns about Sean with Billy.

Billy promises that he’ll ask around and try and find out where he’s living while Sean’s homeless mate Carol tells Sean to be at the Red Rec at 3pm to grab some good from a van which gives out meals to the homeless.

When Billy calls at the Red Rec with supplies for the food van, he’s bemused to see Sean there.

Sean doesn’t want his secret to be outed so, thinking on his feet, he lies to Billy and makes out he’s become a volunteer and he’s here to help serve the food.

Billy’s not entirely convinced and as Carol arrives at the food van, Sean makes out she’s someone he used to work with at the bingo hall so as not to arouse suspicion.

Will Billy believe him?

After this awkward exchange, Carol is angry when Sean scares off a punter she is trying to sell herself to, and later collapses in the park having been attacked.

Billy helps Sean take her to the hospital where he breaks down and admits he is homeless.

Sean tells Billy everything and says he felt he could not ask for help as everyone had something going on which meant they needed support in their own way.

Later on, he is angry at Billy when the vicar gets Eileen to come to the hospital, where Sean insists he does not want their charity.

But Carol gives him food for thought when she warns him not to turn out like her, and urges him to accept help.

Eileen and Billy feel bad they let Sean down in his hour of need so they are delighted when he arrives back on the street and says he needs help, at which time Billy says he can have his sofa.

In an attempt to get his life back on track, Sean casually asks Carla if she’s hiring machinists, pretending to have a friend in need of a job, so Carla invites Sean to pass on their CV.

Meanwhile, Carol’s discharged from hospital and Billy reveals he’s found her a place at a clinic and Sean encourages her to take it.

Sean is then delighted as he gets his job back at the factory.

Then Carol agrees to meet them later, but Sean is devastated when he and Billy fail to find Carol after she is discharged from hospital.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
