Christian Bale looks totally unrecognisable after gaining THREE STONE to play Vice President Dick Cheney

The 44-year-old actor has never been afraid to transform his appearance for a role, and his part in Vice is no exception.

The former Batman star can be seen with a paunch and balding head in one scene, while in another from the trailer, he can be seen showing off his fuller face behind a pair of glasses.

Christian stars in the movie alongside Sam Rockwell, who plays President George W. Bush, and Steve Carrell, as well as his American Hustle co-star, Amy Adams.

The film is a biographical comedy-drama which follows Cheney's rise to becoming the most powerful Vice President in American history.

As well as gaining the weight, Christian also had to pluck his eyebrows on a daily basis and shave his head.

The Oscar-winning actor famously lost four and a half stone for his role in 2004 film The Machinist, revealing his skeletal frame in shocking scenes.

Christian later revealed he ate just one apple a day, as well as a glass of water and cup of coffee.

He told The Guardian: "It’s an amazing experience doing that. When you’re so skinny that you can hardly walk up a flight of stairs … you’re, like, this being of pure thought.

"It’s like you’ve abandoned your body.

"That's the most Zen-like state I’ve ever been in my life. Two hours sleep, reading a book for 10 hours straight without stopping … unbelievable.

"You couldn’t rile me up. No rollercoaster of emotions. Alas, it doesn’t last.

"As soon as you start putting the food back in your stomach, the rollercoaster comes back."

He then went on to beef up for his role as Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy between 2005 and 2012.

Meanwhile Dick Cheney served as Vice President from 2001 until 2009.
