Cheryl's music comeback suffers major blow as Love Made Me Do It scrapes into the chart at number 19

The singer's new track failed to make it into the top 10 despite her heavy promotional schedule.

Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl, 35, has been busy plugging her comeback single – her first new release in four years.

However, her efforts failed to give the song the boost it needed as the Official Charts Company has confirmed it entered the run down barely inside the top 20.

It is an underwhelming result for the singer, who is no doubt hoping her upcoming performance on The X Factor will send the song rocketing up the chart.

This week's number one spot was held by Ariana Grande, whose latest track Thank U Next held onto to the position a week after going straight in at the top.

Cheryl's song previously plunged out of Spotify's Top 200 in the UK just two days after its release.

On the day of the song's release it received 98,233 streams over the 24 hours but could only hit number 68 on the Spotify chart.

The next day it had fallen to position 161 with just 52,443 streams on the platform.

And by the third day it had disappeared completely.

The number of streams are added to single sales to make up the official chart position of any song.

However, Cheryl's video did much better as it has gained more than 1.6 million views so far.

Cheryl's last hit was I Don't Care in 2014 which went to number one.

Her last single, Only Human, released in 2015, missed out on the top 40, only reaching position 70 on the UK official charts.
