Rupert Wyatt is best known for kicking off the modern “Planet of the Apes” trilogy with 2011’s “Rise” before turning the franchise over to Matt Reeves. Following a trip to more dramatic fare with “The Gambler,” Wyatt is back in science-fiction mode with the upcoming mid-budget indie “Captive State.”
Backed by Focus Features, “Captive State” is set in Chicago a decade after an extraterrestrial invasion. The movie explores the lives of those collaborating with the foreigners and those fighting against them. The ensemble cast includes John Goodman, “Moonlight” breakout Ashton Sanders, Colson Baker, and Vera Farmiga.
