‘Arrow’: Katie Cassidy Returns for Season 6 as Series Regular With a Twist

After Katie’s Laurel Lance was killed in season 4, the star is set to return as series regular in season 6 as Black Siren instead of Black Canary.

After Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance a.k.a. Black Canary was killed on “Arrow” season 4, the actress will be making a return to the DC series. Instead of reprising her role as Black Canary, Katie will portray Black Canary’s Earth-2 doppelganger Black Siren in the final two episodes of the current season 5 of “Arrow”, before returning for season 6 as series regular.

“One of the things that most excites us about ‘Arrow’ is that we go where the story takes us,” said executive producer Marc Guggenheim in a statement. He continued, “Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelganger, Black Siren.”

“We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to ‘Arrow’ as Black Siren, though as her appearances on ‘Arrow’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ this season show, she never really left the family,” Guggenheim added.

As to how Black Siren will be featured in upcoming season 6, it remains to be seen. However, Black Siren’s full-time return means a big deal for Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who still blames himself for Laurel’s death at the hand of Damien Dahrk (Neal McDonogh).

Oliver hopes to rehabilitate the villainous Earth-2 Laurel in order to redeem the original Laurel’s memory. However, it has been proven several times that multiverse doppelgangers are usually not the same people.

Katie first debuted as Black Siren in second season of “The Flash”. Katie’s Black Siren was captured and imprisoned in STAR Labs by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) before “Arrow” season five villain Prometheus (Josh Segarra) helped release her from the prison.

“Arrow” season 5 airs Wednesdays at 8 P.M. ET on The CW.
