Ant-Man and The Wasp’s Evangeline Lilly wants Captain Marvel to lead an all-female Avengers

We didn’t need any further excuse to crown Evangeline Lilly’s The Wasp our new favourite Marvel hero, but she’s gone ahead and given us one anyway.

Sure, the saga of the Avengers as we know them might be coming to an end, but Evangeline has an idea for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next phase.

Speaking to PopBuzz about her (incredible) plan for an all-female Avengers team, Evangeline nominated Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel for the role of leader.

“Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general,” she suggested. “And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead.”

Pondering the potential for a female-led Avengers movie, The Wasp herself said: “The sky’s the limit. We can reinvent the wheel.

“We don’t have to do anything that anyone’s ever done before. We can just make it all up and change the game.”

Well that’s one way to stop the comic book genre from getting stale.

Evangeline isn’t the only Ant-Man and The Wasp alum hoping for Marvel to switch-up its look and feel with the arrival of Phase 4 – the film’s director Peyton Reed also expects it.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the films’ future, Reed said he was “very hopeful” that Marvel will become more diverse: “I’m very hopeful that it’s going to develop and change in the way that it needs to, which is just to be more reflective of everybody.

“People love two things in movies: they love to see themselves reflected on screen – whether it’s just the United States alone or globally, it’s obviously a very diverse world.”

And who run that world? Girls.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is out now in the US and the UK. Book tickets here.
