The Circle launched on Channel 4 last night (September 19) and, while it met with a mixed verdict from viewers, it does seem to have piqued interest.

An amalgamation of Big Brother and Catfish – with some Black Mirror comparisons chucked in for good measure – the brand-new format has thrown up some questions.
So here’s everything you might be wondering as you watch at home…
Are the contestants cut-off from the outside world?
Episode one played out like most shows of its genre; we were introduced to the new batch of contestants while being given a run down of the rules of the game.
Players entered their individual apartments, in The Circle building, and created their own social media profiles – their only means of communication throughout their time on the show.
Channel 4 confirmed to Digital Spy that the contestants will have no contact with anybody outside of The Circle, unless for medical reasons.
Are the players allowed to leave the apartment on The Circle?
Yes, each contestant can leave their room – but only one at a time, so that they do not cross paths with each other.
They are only allowed to use the amenities within the building, which include a yoga studio, indoor gym, outdoor gym, roof garden and hot tub, as well as a few other secret spaces that will be revealed as the series goes on.
What are The Circle contestants allowed to take into their apartments?
Players are allowed to take as much luggage as they like, along with some home comforts to decorate.
They are also permitted to take books and magazines, as well as writing and drawing materials.
Are players allowed their mobile phones on The Circle?
As with most reality game shows, this is a firm no.
In fact, any electronic devices that boast mobile or Wi-Fi capabilities (also including tablets, smartwatches or games consoles) are banned.
Who are the other players and when will they enter The Circle?
On top of the original eight contestants, who entered on launch night, there are a number of players waiting in the wings to join the game.
They are yet to be revealed and are currently in lockdown, but will be introduced intermittently throughout the remainder of the show.
What do the players have in their apartments?
Each flat is kitted out with a fully functioning kitchen including an oven, a dishwasher, a microwave and a washing machine, and contestants are expected to cook their own meals. All of the players provided a shopping list before they entered.
They have their own bed and a walk-in wardrobe, as well as four screens across their personal space (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room) to communicate on The Circle.
Who created The Circle app?
The social media platform was built especially for the show by digital developers Joi Polloi, who has also created platforms for Humans, the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage and internet star Zoella.
