9 EastEnders spoilers reveal what's next in the Mick and Stuart storyline

EastEnders landlord Mick Carter may be banged up in prison, but his ongoing storyline isn’t showing any signs of disappearing just yet.

Locked away and under much suspicion over the shooting of Stuart Highway, poor old Mick will be taking centre stage in troubling scenes all next week as life in jail proves to be pretty hellish.

Here, we’re rounding up nine spoilers revealing what’s next for Walford’s biggest ongoing storyline of the moment.

1. Mick isolated

A loyal family man like Mick was never going to cope too well in the slammer. Locked away from his loved ones, Mick becomes anxious over everything he’s missing on the outside.

The pub boss is particularly keen to wish his son Johnny a happy birthday, since the absent Carter doesn’t know he’s in jail. Mick reckons he can trick Johnny into thinking that everything is normal if he can somehow make a phone call to him from behind bars. (In his shoes, we’d be asking for the wannabe lawyer’s legal advice!)

Mick also quickly becomes aware that his fellow prisoners really aren’t to be messed with. Danny Dyer recently explained: “Mick’s been sent to quite a dangerous prison. I think as soon as he walks in he realises he’s on his own and he has no friends in prison. For any sort of normal guy that goes into prison it’s a real wake-up call and he needs to find his feet quickly.”

2. Carter fightback?

Back on the outside, Mick’s loved ones will naturally be considering how best to help him as things are looking so dire.

Linda will want her beloved hubby back home as quickly as possible, while Shirley is also fiercely loyal to her son. But with the odds stacked against them, where will the Carters even start?

3. Mick meets a dangerous prisoner

As Mick continues to obsess over making that phone call to Johnny, he discovers that the prison’s top dog is a guy called Fraser Mason, played by Joseph Alessi.

Fraser promises Mick that he can offer him a burner phone, but that’s when things really get complicated…

4. Fraser makes his demands

Fearsome Fraser doesn’t mess about, demanding that Mick does his bidding in return for the phone. One favour leads to another and Mick quickly realises that he’s getting out of his depth.

While the exact details of the storyline are being kept pretty vague until the episodes air, Mick is forced to meet a mysterious woman in the prison visiting room as he continues to follow Fraser’s instructions. No offence to Johnny, but we can’t help thinking that phone call really isn’t worth the hassle…

5. Mick fears for his life

Having clearly received the EastEnders memo that Mick needs a revolving door of enemies to make him totally miserable (Dean, Willmott-Brown, Aidan, Stuart), Fraser continues to torment Mick throughout next week’s episodes.

With the backing of several heavies behind bars, Fraser lets things escalate when he gives Mick a threat that he can’t ignore. Duff duff duff duff…

6. Mick’s only friend?

For storyline purposes, we’re guessing that Mick needs at least one well-adjusted and reasonable person to talk to in the prison. With that in mind, next week’s EastEnders spoiler pictures seem to show him being supported by another prisoner called Bob Matthews, played by James Bowers.

At least one person seems to be on Team Mick – although don’t tell Fraser.

7. Stuart’s ultimatum

Stuart couldn’t be more overjoyed next week as he thinks about his oldest friend being locked away, but his daughter Zara isn’t too impressed by his attitude and accuses him of being consumed by hate for the Carters.

Fearing that Zara is starting to turn against him, Stuart makes a show of appearing reasonable and approaches the remaining Carters at the Queen Vic with an alarming ultimatum. Will they agree to his terms?

8. Zara under pressure

All eyes will be on Zara as Stuart continues to make his presence felt. Linda and Halfway both urge Zara to see the truth of the situation next week, but she struggles to accept that her father could be lying about everything.

Zara even pays her own visit to Mick at the prison and suggests that he should tell the truth for Ollie’s sake. But how long can a smart girl like Zara really be fooled for?

9. The shooter revealed!

There have been plenty of clues and red herrings so far, but let’s not forget that EastEnders hasn’t given us any cast-iron confirmation yet over exactly what happened on the night of Stuart’s shooting.

There will be a moment coming up which reveals the identity of the shooter, but as for when, you’ll just have to wait and see.

EastEnders continues on Monday (September 24) at 8pm on BBC One.
