Flight attendant reveals the worst things she’s ever seen passengers do on board

When you board a flight, you are essentially committing to being locked in a cabin with strangers for a few hours.

Which means that if there is one inconsiderately loud passenger or someone who has decided bare feet on your armrest is acceptable, there is nowhere to run.

And unfortunately, some passengers do have some pretty grim habits they seem to indulge on a flight.

Former flight attendant Kathleen Shaw became so fed up with the way some passengers acted on board, she set up Instagram account Passenger Shaming to showcase the worst habits, from bare feet on other people’s armrests to people clipping their nails on board or indulging in other personal grooming matters.

The photos come from passengers around the world who take photos of what’s grossing them out, and tag the account. Kathleen then shares the ones she thinks need to be highlighted.

Oh, and of course there are some pretty savage captions to accompany the pictures and berate those who are grossing others out.

But there is one incident that will always stick out in Kathleen’s mind.

Appearing on Australian breakfast show Sunrise, she explained: "The worst thing that I’ve personally seen was probably a gentleman who caught his hair on fire while he was in the lavatory during a flight smoking crack cocaine… So that happened."

However, the most common bug bear with passengers does seem to be when others put their bare feet on the armrests and seats, often intruding into fellow travellers’ personal space.

Not only is it gross, but there’s actually a really disgusting reason why you want to avoid ditching your shoes and socks while on the plane, especially if you need to move around the cabin.

Kathleen explained that she felt compelled to start the Passenger Shaming account after seeing so much "crazy stuff" happening on board, especially as she knew it was happening for cabin crew on other airlines too.
