EVER wanted to jack in the nine-to-five and start a new life free from the shackles of modern existence?
Many people dream of a simpler existence, but the stars of Ben Fogle's new show are really living it.
The Channel 5 series follows the British adventure, 43, as he meets the people who have turned their backs on the rat race – and are living in some of the most remote locations on Earth.
These include a woman who set up a farm on the edge of the Sahara, a hostel owner in the Guatemalan jungle, and a British couple who founded an Alpaca farm in Spain.
The series also features the creators of a floating island off Canada’s west coast, a cabin builder in the Arkansas bush, and a Brit who patrols Cambodian waterways.
And one particular adventure sees Fogle travel to the remote Wilderness Island, off Australia’s north-western cape, to meet a man living in notoriously dangerous "cyclone alley".
Jim, 45, was inline to inherit his family's cattle farm, but was involved in a paragliding accident aged 28.
He explained: “I shattered my left ankle, broke my left leg in 18 places. My hip was broken and my pelvis was broken in six places. My back in three places. Three broken ribs, punctured lung, ruptured spleen.
"I popped my bowel, my bladder, my stomach.”
Kim and Jim on Wilderness Island in Australia
“I was stuck in bed staring up at the ceiling and said to myself that If I ever get out of this, if I can ever walk again and ever be normal again, I’m just gonna chase my wildest bloody dream because nothing is ever going to be this bad… It was a real catalyst for me.”
Jim’s partner, Kim, 29, first came to the island when she was backpacking in her early twenties.
Danish born Kim also had a near-death experience when she was involved in a nasty car accident.
Kim said: “I flew out of the car 100k an hour and the car flipped 3 times.”
She said: “That was a moment for me of life and death. I went back home a month after and it just changed me.
"Jim was in my mind and he had been through a similar experience himself and he understood what I was going through and I just thought I wanna be where I feel safe and I felt safe.
"So I felt I just had to go to him and just see how it goes…I had to be pushed and that was the push.”
Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild is scheduled to air at 21:00 on Tuesday 17th October
