WWE remove Crown Jewel PPV from event calendar following axe speculation from Saudi links to death of journalist

The wrestling brand enjoyed a successful show in the country in April when they held the Greatest Royal Rumble at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

The follow-up – as part of a 10-year partnership between WWE and the Saudi General Sports Authority – was pencilled in for November 2

But WWE faced calls to cancel the event following the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Saudi national and US resident was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last week.

Turkish authorities claim he was murdered by Saudi agents, allegations that have been denied. Riyadh state Khashoggi left the consulate shortly after he arrived.

A WWE statement said: “We are currently monitoring the situation.”

Vince McMahon’s wrestling company held the first show of a ten-year deal in Saudi back in April.

A crowd of 60,000 people crammed into the King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah for the Greatest Royal Rumble.

And the company has reportedly vowed to return the event to their listings.

Hall of Famer Michaels has accepted a lucrative offer to come out of retirement to compete at Crown Jewel.

The Heartbreak Kid will team with DX partner Triple H to take on The Undertaker and Kane.

Brock Lesnar will also be in action as he attempts to regain the Universal Title from Roman Reigns in a triple threat that also includes Braun Strowman.

Crown Jewel will be streamed live on the WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view services outside of the Middle East.
