Wright remains a Roo

North Melbourne veteran Sam Wright will play on for an 11th season at Arden Street after signing a new one-year deal with the Kangaroos.

Having missed the best part of two years due to lingering foot and ankle injuries, Wright made a successful return in round seven, and ended up playing 16 straight games to finish the season, averaging just over 17.5 disposals per game.

Wright was one of several experienced Kangaroos whose futures had been up in the air as North showed interest in a host of trade and free agent targets, but the 132-game Kangaroo will go around again.

“Sam showed some great resilience in getting back to play senior footy and showed why he is so important to the team,” North's football chief Cameron Joyce said.

As part of his rehab program, Wright turned to ballet for physical therapy.

“He put a tremendous amount of time in the gym and with our medical team, so it was great to see him come back with such an impact after an extended period out of the game," Joyce said.

“Sam has shown great determination and we’ll be excited to see him build on his year with an uninterrupted pre-season.”
