Shock stats reveal Man Utd and Arsenal have been winning for fewer minutes than West Ham and Brighton this season

The Red Devils have spent only 397 minutes in winning positions whilst for The Gunners it's just 351.

The Hammers have led for over 100 minutes more than their London rivals but will be disappointed they haven't transformed it into league position.

Manuel Pellegrini's men are currently 11th and on a three game winning streak heading into their fixture at Fulham on Saturday evening.

Brighton are 13th but the surprising stats revealed today show only six teams have been in a winning position for longer so far this campaign.

Chris Hughton will be concerned by this revelation as he looks to ensure his team's Premier League survival.

Manchester United are currently sixth in the league and only five points ahead of the Hammers.

The stats revealed today do not make good reading for Jose Mourinho whose side have only one win from their last five league outings.

The 397 minutes they have led for is less than half the time their city neighbours and league leaders Manchester City have spent in winning positions – 917 minutes.

Juan Mata admitted that his team seem to have a problem getting ahead early in games.

The Spaniard said: "It seems like we only react in the last ten or 15 minutes and start creating more chances and getting closer and closer to score.

"It is a very busy month and we have very important games coming, especially on Sunday."

United face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and despite the busy month they have had, Mata does not think that is to blame.

He added: "I don't think that's an excuse because as a football player, you focus on the game that you are playing and try to give your best.

"I know it's difficult but we have to keep going and especially with what we have coming on Sunday we really need to be ready for that."

Liverpool are second for time spent in winning positions this season on 719 minutes and will go an enormous 19 points ahead of United in the league with a victory over their rivals on Sunday.

Unai Emery's Arsenal side have spent only 351 minutes in the lead this season which is more than 45-minutes less  than the Red Devils.

However, the Gunners are one place and eight points above them in the league and have received far more praise for their performances so far this campaign.

Unlike their old foes from Manchester, today's stats highlight just how good Arsenal have been at getting results from losing positions.

The North London club have come from behind to win in the Premier League on three occasions this season in victories over West Ham, Leicester City and most recently bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon as they look to increase the gap between them and Mourinho's men.
