Warwick Farm trainer Clare Cunningham will have loftier goals this preparation for the lightly raced Savvy Ken, who goes around a dominant favourite in the last event of the day at Hawkesbury on Sunday in the Clarendon Tavern Class2 Handicap over 1800m.
The son of Savabeel showed consistent progression last campaign and was tested at group 3 level in the Frank Packer Plate, in which he was beaten under three lengths by the likes of Higher Ground, Tangled and Holy Snow. The gelding ran well first-up over 1600m at Hawkesbury, where he sat behind the speed and fought to the line to be beaten less than a length by the talented Waterhouse and Bott trained-Wolfe, with a further six lengths to third.

Jason Collet retains the ride and will roll forward to take up the running in a race that appears to lack early speed.
Earlier in the day, the Mark Newnham-trained Black Magnum will look to go one better in the Starr Partners Real Estate BM64 over 1100m after returning in good fashion at the track last start. The son of Magnus went around over 1000m and couldn’t reel in the winner, who got away with some slow early sectionals.
The best part of the gelding’s performance was the last 100m, where he flew through the line.
The step up to 1100m here second up looks ideal and, from barrier two, Koby Jennings will have the option to lead or take a sit right behind the pace.
In the opening race of the meeting, trainer David Pfieffer will look to break through with win number one this preparation for Magic Search after consistent runs at Canberra, Randwick and the latest at Hawkesbury, where he was run down late.
The race sets up beautifully with a lack of runners that like to be on the speed from the gates.
Jean Van Overmeire will be able to jump straight to the front and, with the run at 1500m under her belt, she will run the trip out strong to the line.
