Roman Reigns cancer: John Cena reveals he texted WWE star within hours of shock leukaemia news

The WWE Universe was stunned in October when The Big Dog told Monday Night Raw viewers he was battling the deadly disease for a second time.

Reigns relinquished the WWE Universal Championship before taking a leave of absence to begin his treatment.

Hundreds of fellow wrestlers, athletes and supporters were quick to offer their support to the 33-year-old, whose real name is Joe Anoaʻi.

And 16-time world champ Cena wasted little time in joining them.

He told Chris Van Vliet: “I texted him the day of the announcement just letting him know that he is in really good hands.

“He is part of a very exclusive fraternity. We all love him for what he’s done.

“We all respect the fact that he is taking care of his health which is first and foremost. I told him if he needs anything he knows where to find me.”

Cena added: “I know Joe. I know Joe’s a tough SOB. I don’t ever expect: ‘Hey man, I need this.’

“I don’t ever expect to get that text, but if I do I think we have a mutual understanding that he knows it’s as good as done.”

Cena has only wrestled on a part-time basis this year as he continues his blossoming Hollywood career.

He is returning to the ring at a WWE Live Show in New York on Boxing Day and he will also be on Raw on January 7 in Orlando, Florida.

Reigns did return to WWE last week just two months after revealing his cancer news.

Vince McMahon’s company were in Fort Hood, Texas, to film their 16th annual Tribute to the Troops.

And the Big Dog was in attendance for the bash despite his health struggles.

Reigns made his first public appearance since his diagnosis became worldwide news last month when he watched his former college team Georgia Tech take on the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

The former Shield member said: “I'm the real Big Dog here. To hell with Georgia, baby.”

Reigns was joined at Tribute to the Troops by country music star Morgan Wallen and ex-The Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
