Rio Ferdinand posts hilarious throwback photo with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy

The four stars are decked out in questionable outfits, including Ronaldo in some rather baggy jeans and Ferdinand rocking a grey Nike tracksuit.

Ferdinand captioned the photo: "All of us like fine wines."

And it drew funny responses from the former Manchester United strikers.

Rooney simply went with the tears of laughter and monkey covering eyes emojis.

Van Nistelrooy said: "Fine wines and fashion icons!!"

Just last week, Rooney uploaded a different funny throwback with Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and John O'Shea all in baggy jeans.

But it's fair to say the players' fashion senses have somewhat improved in the years since the photo was taken.

The quartet all played together under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford for two years between 2004 and 2006.

Rooney was the last of the group to join when he made the switch from Everton.

And van Nistelrooy was the first to leave the club when he signed for Real Madrid before the others followed suit in the following years, with Rooney the last to leave in 2017.

With Ferdinand and the Dutchman retired, Ronaldo joined Juventus this summer after nine years at Real Madrid.

But it has been Rooney grabbing the headlines in recent weeks with his performances in the MLS.

He has ten goals this season, including six in his last five games as his DC United side sit sixth in the Eastern Conference.

His introduction to the capital city side has led to a remarkable change in fortunes for the club this season as they make a late surge for a play-off spot.

The former England captain scored an outrageous free-kick to secure a 1-0 win over Toronto this week, smashing in from 35 yards.
