Mo Salah 'looks unhappy at Liverpool' and could join Real Madrid in the summer, says Paul Merson

The Sky Sports pundit believes that the Anfield top brass would be powerless to stop the Egyptian from moving on.

On Wednesday the 26-year-old ace became the fastest player in Liverpool's history to score 50 goals for the club in Liverpool's 4-0 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade.

He also scored the winner in Liverpool's 1-0 victory against Huddersfield last week.

The forward had a slow start this term but is now starting to show the same blistering form of he managed for the whole of last season.

And Merson has said it was "only a matter of time" before European giants Real Madrid come calling.

Writing in his Daily Star column, Merson said: "How can they not? They need to do something big and they will want him in January. They are struggling like mad. If Salah wanted to go, Liverpool would be powerless to stop him."

"I can't remember the last player to say 'no' to Real Madrid or Barcelona . It's another level. Salah doesn't look happy at Liverpool at the moment and we've seen this before.

"If you take his goals away they're not title contenders any more. Liverpool fans have seen big players leave before. They would be fuming if Salah left too."

"But I wouldn't be shocked if Real Madrid make a big bid in January, and you know how these things work, there might already be some contact."

If Salah was to join the 12-time European champions he would have to team up with Sergio Ramos – who notoriously injured him in Real Madrid's Champions League victory over Jurgen Klopp's men last term,

Salah has five goals in Liverpool's opening ten Premier League fixtures.
