Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has lost '90 per cent' of the squad according to senior player

And backroom staff who have fallen out with the Portuguese boss are confident they will outlast him at the club.

Mourinho branded Paul Pogba a “virus” infecting the dressing room after United drew 2-2 at Southampton two weeks ago.

Yet one star seen as loyal to Mourinho is said to have told pals following the Saints game that 90 per cent of the squad no longer back the manager.

And morale is believed to have fallen so far since then there are fears United could get a hiding at Liverpool.

The Special One’s popularity outside the squad is also thought to be low.

One member of staff who had a run-in with the manager is reported as saying: “I’ll be here long after he’s gone.”

Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes issued a statement earlier this month insisting his client has no intention of leaving United and that the club and the manager are very happy with each other.

But Mourinho, 55, is understood to be unimpressed at Woodward missing Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat in Valencia.

United’s executive vice-chairman is thought to have been in the USA on club business.

Insiders also believe United’s plans to have a director of football could accelerate Mourinho’s exit.

And there is speculation ex-skipper Patrice Evra is set for a role at Old Trafford after the Frenchman’s autobiography was put on hold for a third time, until August 2020.

The manuscript was finished in time to hit the shelves in September as planned.

But sources suggest the delay is down to Evra’s desire not to damage his chances at United.
