Luke Shaw says ‘thick skin’ is required to play under Jose Mourinho after yet another outburst from the Man Utd manager

The Portuguese manager has yet again risked causing another wrath in the dressing room after the latest outburst of his players.

Following a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to struggling Crystal Palace, Mourinho told his stars to stay at home if they can't handle the pressure.

Shaw has been singled out by Mourinho in the past for his attitude and performances but the pair have appeared to settle their differences this season.

The left-back's performances on the field has earned him a new contract in a rare shining light in United's season.

And the England international has revealed what it takes to play under Mourinho before issuing a rallying cry to his team-mates.

As United look for Champions League qualification against Young Boys tonight, Shaw said: "You need thick skin to play under this manager and for this club.

"But we need to fight for this manager, the team and the club. Everyone in the changing room is a fighter and we want the best for the team and the club.”

Mourinho also questioned his player's hearts and desire after the Palace draw left them 14 points adrift of Manchester City.

And before that the Manchester United boss accused Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard of "lacking maturity".

After the weekend's disappointing result, Manchester United have won just three matches at home this season in all competitions.

But Mourinho is adamant that he would rather play under the floodlights of Old Trafford but their success is coming on the road.

He said: "I think it would be a lack of respect to the stadium and to the fans to say we prefer to play away from home. I totally refuse to say that.

"If you ask me do I prefer to play tomorrow at Young Boys here or go again to Berne I would say immediately to play at home. Always.

"I always prefer to play at home. If you feel pressure when people come to support you stay at [your] home and watch on TV.”
