Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk released from Netherlands duty with week to rest rib injury before Huddersfield

The 27-year-old defender starred in the 3-0 Nations League win over Germany on Saturday, after scoring the opening goal.

The centre-back completed 90 minutes at the Johan Cruyff Arena but will not be risked for the next fixture due to an old injury.

The Dutch FA say their star man is still suffering from an injury he suffered in Liverpool's Premier League win against former club Southampton on September 22.

It could be good news for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans who face Huddersfield on Saturday.

VvD will now have a rare week’s rest between games and could return in the fine form he left in, having been a Prem ever present so far this season.

After the match, Van Dijk said: “Germany are not just a team. They are top quality players who play at top clubs.

"You don't expect a result like that in advance. If you had said before that we would beat Germany 3-0, nobody would have believed you.

"It feels very good, we worked hard, won 3-0, kept the clean sheet, that is very nice.”

Striker Mohamed Salah left Egypt's squad on Saturday with a muscle strain and is another key man the Anfield faithful will hope recovers quickly.
