Lionel Messi wants Paul Pogba to join Barcelona from Manchester United with Gerard Pique also keen to lure France star

The Manchester United midfielder has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford due to his turbulent relationship with boss Jose Mourinho.

Barcelona have been one of the clubs touted as a potential destination.

And now it seems heavyweights Messi and Pique are pushing club supremos to make it happen, according to the Daily Mail.

They are said to believe the club "would benefit from the presence and power" that World Cup winner Pogba could provide.

Pogba is also close mates with Nou Camp stars Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele – who he recently went to Disneyland Paris with.

Boss Ernesto Valverde is reportedly happy with a move for Pogba, 25, but club scouts less so.

They hold reservations over Pogba's ability to fit into the club's tika-taka DNA.

But the dressing room is said to be in favour of introducing a more bulldozing presence in midfield.

This was brought on by the their unbelievable Champions League defeat to Roma last season, where they surrendered a 4-1 first-leg lead in the quarter-finals.

Of all the players they could sign, it is Pogba who holds the perfect mix of brains and brawn.

However, there are doubts over whether Barca can afford the £89million man.

The club's most recent accounts showed that while revenue is expected to hit £843m for this season, profits will only reach £9.6m.
