Lionel Messi holds talks with Argentina chiefs over shock return to national side in 2019

The Barcelona star has reportedly turned his back on the national team after Argentina’s heart-breaking World Cup exit against France — but he never made an official announcement.

But he could soon find himself pulling on the famous blue-and-white jersey after watching the Copa Libertadores final between River Plate and Boca Juniors in Madrid on Sunday.

Messi met with Argentine FA kingpin Claudio Tapia and national team boss Lionel Scaloni after the game.

And it’s believed the Barcelona star is set to make himself available once again as the country looks to bounce back from its recent hardships.

AFA chief Tapia wrote on social media: “Leaving Madrid after the final of the Libertadores and several days of intense work.

"Ending the year and projecting what is coming next, we met with Scaloni and Leo Messi."

Messi is Argentina’s leading all-time goal scorer, hitting the target 65 times in 128 games.

Meanwhile, the ace has just upgraded to the jet-set life by landing a new private plane.

Messi’s jet has a kitchen, two bathrooms, 16 seats which can fold into bed, and even personalised steps.
