Leeds United fans have anti-Sky chants silenced after protests at TV scheduling

A section of Elland Road regulars are sick of the broadcasters disrupting their kick-off times so they can attract thousands of viewers on the box.

During last Saturday’s Championship clash with Nottingham Forest, chants of ‘Sky TV is f****** s***’ rung out in the ground but were dubbed out on TV, reports the Mail.

The process is known as ‘dampening’ and means the fans’ only real way to voice their displeasure, while still supporting the players, is being denied them

Of Leeds’ 15 league matches so far this season, only four have kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday, creating transport problems for supporters who want to travel the country following their heroes.

Between September 28 and November 10, seven of eight matches have been, or are scheduled to be, shown on TV.

Leeds’ huge global appeal, especially for a side not spotted in the Premier League since 2004, has been boosted even further since Marcelo Bielsa was made manager and got them playing attractive football.

After last Saturday’s 5:30pm kick-off with Forest ended 1-1 at Elland Road, a Sky reporter interviewed the home side’s scorer Kemar Roofe but exiting fans then launched into another anti-Sky chorus.

Sky declined to comment. It is understood that the broadcaster does use dampening techniques in the event of coarse language being used, and is mindful of Ofcom’s pre-watershed regulations.
