John Mara shreds Odell Beckham over ESPN interview

John Mara is fed up with Odell Beckham Jr. at the start of what appears to be an ugly season. It’s 2017 all over again.

A year after the Giants owner criticized the star receiver for his dog-peeing celebration, Mara expressed frustration over Beckham’s controversial ESPN interview.

“I wish he would create the headlines by his play on the field as opposed to what he says and what he does off the field,” Mara told reporters at the NFL owners’ meetings. “I think he needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking.”

In the interview that aired nine days and two more Giants losses ago, Beckham questioned quarterback Eli Manning, coach Pat Shurmur and his willingness to stay in New York just weeks after signing a $95 million contract.

Shurmur asked Beckham to speak to his teammates about the interview and the Giants fined the receiver, who has 45 catches for 506 yards and one touchdown this season.
