England’s King of Swing went past Aussie legend Glenn McGrath on Tuesday as his 564th Test wicket made him the world’s greatest fast bowler.
But Anderson vowed to keep improving — even at the age of 36.
He said: “I plan to play for as long as I can — all the time I’m enjoying practice and looking to get better.
"My enthusiasm and love of playing for England is as strong as ever.
“There’s always room for improvement because sometimes you have to bowl in a completely different way depending on conditions.
“I manage my body and my workload but, when I practice, I work hard to improve specific skills.”
The stats support Anderson’s claim that his bowling is on an upward curve.
He took 55 Test wickets at 17.58 last year and so far in 2018 he has 42 victims at 20.54.
They are the lowest averages for any calendar year in his entire career, which started in 2003.
This year’s haul included a series-high 24 scalps in the 4-1 defeat of India, the world’s No 1-ranked Test team.
Anderson’s next targets are this winter’s tours to Sri Lanka and West Indies, followed by next summer’s Ashes.
If he plays in those series, he will smash through the 600-wicket barrier.

He said he would be “flabbergasted” if he and new-ball partner Stuart Broad were rested for the tour of Sri Lanka, as some people have suggested.
The paceman added: “We both have plenty of time to recover from the five Tests against India and prepare for the Sri Lanka tour.
“The Test players don’t fly out until late October.”
