Heisman finalist wouldn’t mind being next Giants quarterback

The Giants will be in the market for a franchise quarterback and Dwayne Haskins, a Big Blue fan growing up, may end up declaring for the NFL draft.

It could be a perfect fit.

“It would be pretty nice,” the Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist said Saturday before finishing third in the voting, behind winner Kyler Murray and runner-up Tua Tagovailoa.

Haskins grew up in Highland Park, N.J., before moving to Maryland right before high school. He was a fan of the Giants, Tiki Barber in particular.

“I played ‘Madden’ a lot, and he was really good running the football,” the 6-foot-3 Haskins said. “The whole offense was nice. Plaxico [Burress], Jeremy Shockey, Eli [Manning], Ahmad Bradshaw. I was basically the stats guy from my family. I would know everybody’s height and weight, what college they went to.

“I’ve been a Giants fan for a long time.”

Haskins had a huge year for the Buckeyes, leading them to the Big Ten crowd and setting conference records in touchdown passes (47) and passing yards (4,580).

A redshirt sophomore, the big-armed Haskins still hasn’t decided if he will enter his name into the NFL draft. But if he does, his favorite team could be waiting to select him.
