Fans pelt linesman with snowballs forcing stoppage at snowy Partizan Belgrade match

Supporters took exception to officials’ decisions in Partizan’s 0-0 draw with Macva Sabac – and showed their displeasure by pelting the hapless linesman with snowballs.

 

The video above shows the official being forced onto the field of play after being splattered by the snowy missiles.

The Serbian club – who have one of the fiercest rivalries in football against the capital’s other side Red Star – worked hard to clear the pitch prior to the match, but heavy snowfall saw the game turn into something of a lottery.

Partizan defender Slobodan Urosevic was sent off for a second bookable offence just before half time as the home failed to break down a weakened Macva.

Fan frustration at being held to a draw by the mid-table side spilled over late in the second half, when a group of around 50 black-clad supporters began collecting snow from the terraces.

And the yellow-shirted lino proved a most convenient target as they proceeded to get in some practice in for their Christmas snowball fights.

It caused a brief break in the action as referee Aleksandar Zivkovic tried to protect his beleaguered assistant.

Amazingly, the game was allowed to finish and ended goalless, meaning Partizan remain in third position in the SuperLiga, with Macva occupying tenth spot.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Serbian football now goes into its winter break – something that can’t come too soon for a certain soggy match official…
