Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny explains how he’s managing to seamlessly replace Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus

The 28-year-old has established himself as the Old Lady's No 1 shot-stopper after the Italian legend joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer on a free transfer.

Szczesny has conceded just eight goals in 11 Serie A games this season, with unbeaten Juve sitting pretty at the top of the table.

The ex-Arsenal ace joined Massimiliano Allegri's side last year from the Gunners – where he played second fiddle to Buffon.

He was criticised for his performance against Manchester United last week where his weak parry led to the Red Devils' late winner in Turin.

But he redeemed himself in the eyes of Juve fans after he expertly denied Gonzalo Higuain from the penalty spot against AC Milan yesterday as Juve won 2-0.

And speaking after the match about what it's like to follow in the footsteps of Buffon, the Polish international thanked his back four for making his job easy.

Szczesny said: "To be honest, playing behind a defence that is this good, it’s difficult to make a mistake.”

However some fans were quick to remind the two-time FA Cup winner about his display against Jose Mourinho's side.

One supporter commented: "Yet he still managed to make a huge one in midweek. Well in, lad(!)"

How do Arsenal fans feel about Wojciech Szczesny?

Not many Arsenal fans would have foreseen Wojciech Szczesny replacing Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus after he fell out of favour under Arsene Wenger during the 2014/15 season.

Scolded by Wenger for smoking in the changing rooms following a 2-0 defeat away at Southampton proved to be his downfall at the Emirates, as he was dropped to the bench for the rest of the campaign.

But there has never been any doubts over his talent, and how the Gunners would have loved him between the sticks over the recent seasons – a player that is Arsenal through and through.

He will forever be remembered by Arsenal fans for his emaphatic penalty saves against Liverpool and Udinese – the latter helping the side to progress into the group stages of the Champions League.

And none will be forgetting his cheeky wink to Johan Djourou in the North London derby after he wiped out Gareth Bale at White Hart Lane in 2011.

While another tweeted: "He’s forgotten the Man Utd game quickly."

Szczesny is still a fan favourite at the Emirates after making 181 appearances under Arsene Wenger, where he recently confirmed he wanted to retire in North London.

He is no stranger to trolling Tottenham, whether it be on social media, or on the Wembley pitch following a victory.
